BAMBOO DATA SHEET
- Cracking and
splitting may occur with any variety
- Diameter measurement
is taken at the heavy end of the pole, between the first and second node. As
these are natural products, variation will occur.
- WE DO NOT GUARANTEE
AGAINST SPLITTING AND CRACKING. All varieties are susceptible. All poles are
packed sound.
NEVER:
- Use bamboo for fence
posts. They will rot within 3 to 4 years. They make a great stake but not
fence post.
- Push bamboo through
a table or other saw. It will shed. To get a nice clean cut roll the
bamboo through the saw. Score the outside skin first.
- Bend bamboo except
when green.
- Nail through bamboo.
It will split. Pre-drill and then use finishing nails.
- Immediately bring
your bamboo to a different climate. Bamboo should be slowly acclimated.
ALWAYS:
- Use ordinary tools
such as table saw, hacksaws or band saws. No special tools are required.
- Use bamboo in the
half round whenever possible.
- Plan on working with
an inexact product.
- Keep all fencing
just above the ground contact or it will rot.
- Plan on maintaining
your bamboo fencing. It must weather approximately 6 months to a year; then
it will turn a grayish color. The outside skin will be able to absorb a
water sealer or stain. Oil base stains work the best. Clean thoroughly
before treating with a fence or deck sealer.
- Flip the poles top
and bottom if you make your own fence.
- Use a fine toothed
metal working bladed tool to cut bamboo. When possible, make a relief cut
lengthwise on the pole to reduce the possibility of further splitting.
